Tragic Murder-Suicide in Lake Station, Indiana: Family of Five Found Dead

On February 21, 2025, tragedy struck Lake Station, Indiana, when officers were called to a mobile home in the 6700 block of 9th Avenue at approximately 2:44 p.m. for a welfare check. After obtaining a search warrant, officers discovered five deceased individuals inside.
The Lake County Coroner’s Office identified the victims as 4-year-old Alayna Payne, 6-year-old Ava Payne, 7-year-old Aurorah Payne, and 27-year-old Briana Payne, ruling their deaths as homicides. The coroner’s office also identified 31-year-old Robert Payne, determining that he died by suicide from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
In a statement, the Lake County Coroner’s Office expressed their condolences:
“On behalf of Lake County Coroner David Pastrick and the entire staff of the Lake County Coroner’s Office, our hearts go out to the family of this extremely unfortunate and devastating tragedy. Please hold your families and loved ones close as we mourn together as a community the loss of innocence.”
