Two-Year-Old Bre’Yon Wells Killed in St. Louis; 21-Year-Old Suspect Charged with Murder and Sexual Assault

Authorities in St. Louis have charged 21-year-old Nicco Cotton in connection with the death of two-year-old Bre’Yon Wells. The incident occurred in late October 2025, when the child was brought unresponsive to a local hospital and later pronounced dead.

According to court documents and police reports, investigators determined that Bre’Yon had suffered severe internal injuries and signs of asphyxiation. Medical examiners concluded that the cause of death was consistent with homicidal violence and physical and sexual abuse.
St. Louis Metropolitan Police responded after the child was transported to SSM Health Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital, where staff alerted authorities about signs of abuse.
An investigation determined that Bre’Yon Wells had sustained:
Multiple blunt-force injuries, including a lacerated liver
Asphyxial injuries consistent with strangulation
Evidence of sexual assault
Detectives identified Nicco Cotton as a person of interest. Police say Cotton was in a relationship with Bre’Yon’s mother and was caring for the child at the time of the incident.
Cotton was later taken into custody and charged with:
Second-Degree Murder
Forcible Sodom
Statutory Sodomy
Abuse or Neglect of a Child Resulting in Death
As of November 2025, Nicco Cotton remains in custody pending court proceedings in the City of St. Louis. Prosecutors have not announced whether additional charges or enhancements will be filed.
