On February 6, 2025, tragedy struck when 34-year-old Cymone King-Roberson took the lives of her three children before ending her own. The incident unfolded just before 7:00 a.m. on the 300 block of Welcome Road. Law enforcement was dispatched to the scene, where they encountered Cymone, who was armed.Negotiators attempted to de-escalate the situation, but when efforts failed, the SWAT team was deployed. Concerned that there were deceased juveniles inside, officers forced entry into the home. Inside, authorities discovered the bodies of Cymone's three children: 5-year-old twins Emani King and Ermias King, and their 14-year-old sister Kanaurie King. Cymone’s body was also found at the scene.

According to her brother, Ivonni King, Cymone had called him before taking her own life, confessing that she had killed her children due to emotional distress over a recent breakup with her girlfriend. A neighbor reported hearing screams early that morning.

Kanaurie was a student at Indian River Middle School, while Ermais and Emani attended Thurgood Marshall Elementary. Their tragic loss has left a deep void in the community.

Our hearts go out to the grieving family and all those affected by this heartbreaking event. May these young souls rest in peace.
