Odeal Curley Fatally Shot While Trying to Break Up Fight in Chicago’s Fuller Park

On October 18, 2025, 40-year-old Odeal Curley was tragically shot and killed while attempting to break up a fight in Fuller Park, located on the South Side of Chicago.
According to police, the altercation reportedly involved 35-year-old Demar King and his girlfriend. King has since been arrested and charged in connection with Odeal’s murder.
Authorities say the incident occurred around 12:40 a.m. after Demar rented a party bus for a birthday celebration. During the event, an argument broke out between Demar, his girlfriend, and her friend. The fight escalated and spilled outside of the bus on the 5400 block of South Shields Avenue.

Witnesses say Odeal tried to intervene in the situation, attempting to defuse the conflict. Tragically, that act of courage cost her life. Demar allegedly pulled out a handgun and shot Odeal in the leg. She was transported to a nearby hospital, where she was later pronounce
d deceased.
Police recovered 9mm shell casings at the scene. After the shooting, Demar and his girlfriend allegedly fled the scene in a Chevy Traverse. He was later arrested after reportedly trying to escape from law enforcement.
Demar King now faces multiple charges, including first-degree murder, aggravated fleeing, property damage exceeding $300, and several misdemeanors and traffic violations.
This senseless tragedy has left the Fuller Park community grieving and searching for answers as investigators continue to piece together what led to the deadly confrontation.
