According to reports, deputies responded to a home in the Villages of Shakerag subdivision in unincorporated Johns Creek after Tuitt-Bartlett’s teenage son, who had been shot multiple times, managed to escape to a neighbor’s home. The neighbor immediately tended to the boy’s wounds and called 911, saving his life.

Investigators say the teenager told neighbors that an argument had broken out between his mother and her boyfriend, which quickly escalated when the suspect opened fire.

Authorities identified 43-year-old Eric Sumner, Tuitt-Bartlett’s boyfriend, as the gunman. Sumner fled the scene but was pursued by law enforcement on I-75 before being apprehended in Monroe County. He was arrested and booked into the Forsyth County Jail, where he faces charges of homicide, aggravated assault, and murder.

Deputy Tuitt-Bartlett served with the Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office for nearly 20 years, leaving behind a profound legacy of dedication and service. Her tragic loss is deeply felt throughout the law enforcement community and beyond.

Rest in Peace, Deputy Tuitt-Bartlett.
