ASU Student Gennia Grimes Killed; Child’s Father Charged with Murder

On March 27, 2025, 21-year-old Gennia Grimes tragically lost her life to gun violence. Deputies from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of a shooting on U.S. Highway 80 East in Pike Road, Alabama. Life-saving efforts were made at the scene, and Grimes was airlifted to a nearby hospital. Despite those efforts, she later succumb
ed to her injuries.

Rogers McCloud Jr., 20, the father of Grimes’ child, has been arrested in connection with her death. He is currently charged with capital murder and is being held without bond at the Montgomery County Detention Facility.
Law enforcement officials reported that McCloud Jr. was present in the vehicle at the time of the shooting and has provided inconsistent accounts of the incident. Chief Wesley Richerson told WSFA 12 News that the case is being investigated as an act of domestic violence.

At the time of her passing, Gennia Grimes was a student at Alabama State University, pursuing a degree in Criminal Justice. She was also a member of the university’s Honey Beez Dance Team. She leaves behind a young son, family, and a community who loved her deeply.
