Trenton Woman Alyssia Murphy Shot and Killed; Boyfriend Charged With Murder

32-year-old Alyssia Murphy was tragically shot and killed on November 16, 2025, in Trenton, New Jersey. The incident occurred around 5:51 p.m. near Oakland Street, initially triggering police response through a ShotSpotter alert.

Shortly after the alert, police began receiving calls about a 25-year-old woman who had been shot in the leg. Officers arrived on scene, located the victim, and transported her to a local hospital. While investigating, police also received calls about another woman who had been shot multiple times, and witnesses reported seeing a man fleeing the area in a vehicle.

Despite immediate response efforts, officers were unable to locate the second victim until nearly two hours later. During the ongoing investigation, authorities discovered Alyssia Murphy inside a silver Toyota Camry.


According to law enforcement, Alyssia had been sitting in the vehicle with a friend when her boyfriend, 36-year-old Lamont Truitt, approached. An argument escalated, and Truitt allegedly pulled out a gun and opened fire. The 25-year-old friend was able to escape the car after being shot in the leg. Truitt then allegedly fled the scene.


Later that same day, Truitt turned himself in to the Trenton Police Department. He has been charged with:

  • First-degree murder

  • First-degree attempted murder

  • First-degree carjacking

  • Additional related offenses
