On February 19, 2025, 41-year-old Rebecca Carter was tragically killed by her boyfriend, 40-year-old Travis Huff, at CubeSmart, a self-storage facility located at 950 Trinity Road in Cary, North Carolina. Rebecca was the resident manager of the facility.

According to reports, after the incident, Huff allegedly left the scene to pick up a friend. Upon returning to the apartment at the storage facility, the two used crack cocaine while Rebecca's lifeless body remained in a bedroom, covered with a comforter.

Travis later called 911, reportedly telling the operator, "There’s been a murder," and admitting, "I killed her." He claimed that he and Rebecca had an argument after leaving a bar together, which escalated into a violent altercation. He confessed to law enforcement that he "lost control," strangled Rebecca, and then stabbed her at least twice in the chest.

Huff also admitted to texting Rebecca’s boss, stating that she was sick, in an attempt to cover up her absence from work.

When authorities arrived at the scene, they found Rebecca deceased, with a knife still lodged in her chest. Travis Huff was taken into custody and now faces serious charges. If convicted, he could receive life in prison without the possibility of parole or even the death penalty.

Rest in Peace, Rebecca Carter.
