Authorities have arrested 46-year-old Carlos Johnson Jr. in connection with the disappearance of Keir Johnson and her 8-month-old daughter, Chloe Johnson, who went missing on April 30, 2017, in Hampton, Virginia. Keir had planned to meet friends at Buckroe Beach but never arrived. Concerned family members reported her and Chloe missing, and 11 days later, an Amber Alert was issued. On May 14, 2017, Keir’s black 2013 Kia Optima was discovered abandoned near Jefferson Avenue and Arch Street.
Johnson, the father of Chloe, has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder. Police have confirmed that he had been a person of interest for some time. Although he and Keir shared the same last name, they were not married and were separated at the time of her disappearance.
While the bodies of Keir and Chloe have not been recovered, law enforcement continues to treat the case as a homicide. Keir’s family has expressed their long-standing belief that someone close to her was involved in her disappearance. Her twin sister, Teir Johnson, described their bond as inseparable, emphasizing that they spoke frequently.
The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward. The Newport News Police Foundation is offering a $35,000 reward for details leading to the recovery of Keir and Chloe Johnson.
