Suspect Identified After Crash
Baton Rouge Police also responded to a separate vehicular crash and determined that 28-year-old Steven Heinrich Jr. was involved in both the stabbing and the collision.
According to investigators, Heinrich arrived at Stasy’s home, used his vehicle to ram her car, forcibly removed her from the vehicle, and then stabbed her. After the attack, he fled the scene and intentionally caused a head-on collision with another vehicle in the opposite lane. While inside the wrecked car, Heinrich allegedly set himself on fire. He was transported to the hospital in critical condition and later succumbed to his injuries on Friday.
History of Domestic Violence Reports
This was not the first time Stasy had reported Heinrich to police.
On November 5, 2025, Stasy contacted BRPD regarding a battery incident.
Heinrich was arrested, posted a $2,500 bond, and was charged with battery of a dating partner. He was also served a protective order within 24 hours of his arrest.
Police report Heinrich had six additional protective orders filed against him by other women.
Stasy had also filed a restraining order against Heinrich on October 6, 2025, prohibiting him from approaching her home, workplace, or school. In the filing, she reported physical abuse, threats to her life, and ongoing stalking. She stated he used fake phone numbers, contacted her friends and employer through group chats, sent inappropriate images, and repeatedly harassed her through social media. The order was later dismissed when Stasy did not appear for the scheduled hearing.
The community is mourning the loss of Stasy Charles, whose life was cut short by violence.
Rest in Peace Stasy Charles.
