Chicago Shooting: Romeca Meeks Fatally Shot in South Loop After School Drop-Off

Chicago mother Romeca Meeks, 31, was fatally shot in a South Loop domestic-related shooting.

The fatal shooting occurred around 9:05 a.m. near Cermak Road and State Street. According to Chicago police, Meeks became involved in a physical altercation with another woman, who then pulled out a gun and shot her in the face.

Emergency responders transported Meeks to Stroger Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead. Police confirmed that the suspected shooter was taken into custody but was later released. At this time, no charges have been filed. Investigators say they are treating the incident as a domestic-related case.


Romeca Meeks leaves behind her six-year-old son, who had just been dropped off at school minutes before the tragedy.
